Jennifer Yu, MD, MPHS
As a surgery resident in a program that stresses research training, Jennifer Yu, MD, MPHS, has received invaluable mentorship. Public health sciences Division Chief Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, guided her as she completed a master of population health sciences degree, and breast surgeon Julie Margenthaler, MD, has helped her bring a clinical trial to fruition.
Now Yu is applying the skills she learned from those and other experiences to benefit medical students. She has proactively organized a variety of workshops and teaching sessions, with plans this year to get residents involved in mentoring first-year students in the anatomy course.
Says Yu, “I am grateful for the opportunities Dr. Paul Wise, our residency program director, and others have given me. I want to give that same chance to medical students who might become surgeons someday.”
